Discusses Unity, Problem Solving, Jersey Values, Importance of Voting
ENGLEWOOD, NJ — Today, November 6, 2022, Congressman Josh Gottheimer and Senator Cory Booker attended sunday service at Community Baptist Church of Englewood. Gottheimer and Booker spoke to the congregation to discuss unity, making life more affordable, problem solving, protecting democracy, and the importance of voting. Gottheimer commended the congregation for their strength, resiliency, faith, and positive work in the community.
“I’d like to sincerely thank Reverend Dr. Lester Taylor, First Lady Taylor, the officers, and the congregation for having me here to the home of the Lord today. We are incredibly lucky to have my good friend, Senator Cory Booker, here with us. He is someone who fights hard for Jersey, someone who does so much good for our country and never grows weary,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5). “If we don’t stand together, work together, and bridge our divides … if we don’t put country ahead of partisan politics … they will win, and, as Lincoln said, a house divided against itself cannot stand. We must not become weary in doing good. We cannot give up. We must not — and I know you will not. Just like Community Baptist never stops.”
Gottheimer continued, “I know that the Community Baptist Church of Englewood congregation does so much good — welcoming neighbors, family, and friends to celebrate one another and your faith. I applaud you for it and I am incredibly grateful to be here. I will continue to be your voice in Washington. I will never stop fighting for you and your families.”
“My brother stood up here, Josh Gottheimer, and I want to tell you something. Because we know something about hate. My brother Josh and I joke with him all the time. This young man from Bergen County, I always call him the James Brown of the United States House of Representatives, because, I’m serious, this man never stops. I get text messages from him at two or three o’clock in the morning. And he is always working,” said Senator Cory Booker today. “He is one of these rare people that stands in the breach between left and right, trying to bring people together for common causes, and I give him a lot of credit for the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill. He led on that. I give him a lot of credit for the Science and Chips Act. All of these are bringing billions of dollars to our state. But I’m especially proud because he hasn’t forgotten who he is.”
Gottheimer was joined by Senator Cory Booker, Reverend Dr. Lester Taylor, First Lady Taylor, Reverend Dr. Martha Simmons, Sheriff Anthony Cureton, officers and members of the congregation, and visitors and friends.
